Do You Run in Your Sport? So Why Don’t You Run in Your Rehab?

If you play a sport, running is part of your game—sprints, sudden stops, changes of direction, and reactive movements are all in play. So why do many rehab programs skip running altogether?
At SportsFit Health and Rehab, we know that structured, field-based running is essential for a safe, successful return to sport. Rehab isn’t just about pain-free movement—it’s about getting you game-ready.

Why Running Rehab Matters
Gym exercises are important, but they don’t fully replicate the demands of your sport. Running rehab helps:
Recreate sport-specific movements: accelerations, decelerations, sprints, and cuts
Test injury resilience: monitor how your body handles stress
Reduce re-injury risk: gradually expose tissues to sport-specific loads
Supervised Field Sessions
One of the most important parts of running rehab is having a professional observe your technique. Our physios and S&C coaches can:
Correct running mechanics to improve efficiency and speed
Identify risky compensations
Progress your load safely
One of my pet peeves is hearing an athlete say, “I’ve injured my hamstring again sprinting,” and when I ask how much top-speed sprinting was included in their rehab, they say “none.” You have to train and develop the quality that is causing the injury—otherwise, you’re not truly progressing. There’s no amount of Nordics or RDL’s that can replicate sprinting.
Seeing your running in real time builds confidence and ensures you’re truly ready for your sport

Multi-Dimensional Running
Rehab running isn’t just straight lines. Effective programs at SportsFit include:
Acceleration & deceleration – safely start and stop
Top-speed sprints – gradually expose your body to maximum effort
Change of direction & reactive drills – mirror game scenarios
Conditioning – maintain technique under fatigue
This approach mirrors your sport and reduces the risk of setbacks.
Get Back to Sport-Ready Running
